Ebony McClellan Medina

Ebony is an accomplished ERYT 500-hour Yoga Teacher, Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) facilitator, and creative writer, currently pursuing a master’s degree in Ayurveda and Integrative Health. Her yoga journey began in 2010 after an autoimmune disease left her disabled. Under the mentorship of Scott Page and Donna Schnoor at Ignite Yoga Studios, she completed 200 and 300-hour training programs, dedicating over a decade to teaching, studying, and writing about ancient practices for holistic healing.

Ebony’s personal experience with chronic illness inspired her to make yoga and MBSR accessible to diverse communities, especially those with chronic conditions. In 2020, after a hiatus due to the loss of her mother, she noticed a gap in grief and trauma support within her classes. This led her to obtain specialized certifications and start bi-monthly grief and trauma-informed sessions, providing safe spaces for those navigating these challenges.

Recognizing the lack of diversity in wellness spaces, Ebony created classes focused on the BIPOC community to foster inclusivity. In 2022, she founded The Ebony Yogi Foundation, a 501(c)(3) dedicated to inclusive yoga and meditation. The foundation collaborated with a local comfort center to support domestic violence survivors, expanding its mission to serve marginalized communities with compassion and expertise.

Ebony’s teaching style integrates mindfulness, breath-centered movement, and spiritual exploration. Her classes blend dynamic flows, rejuvenating stretches, and moments of stillness, empowering students to connect with their bodies, minds, and spirits and to carry the benefits of their practice beyond the mat.

Yoga Nidra Class Description

Yoga Nidra, also known as “yogic sleep” or “effortless relaxation,” is the conscious state between wakefulness and sleep that allows deep relaxation and a sense of well-being through awareness and the welcoming of all that is present. Yoga nidra, or yogic sleep, is a deep relaxation technique that takes the practitioner into a state of conscious sleep where the body is completely relaxed, yet the mind remains awake and alert. The practitioner is led through a sequence of verbal instructions incorporating a series of breath, body, and awareness techniques. Unlike meditation, which requires focusing on a single point, yoga nidra facilitates deep relaxation by withdrawing the senses internally.

Yin Class Description

A slower-paced style of yoga that includes passive poses (or relaxing the body and muscles) combined with holding poses longer while focusing on the breath and being present. Many of the poses are seated or lying on your back or stomach. Longer poses help facilitate the slow and safe opening of connective tissues like tendons and ligaments. Yin is a great counterbalance to more active styles of yoga, and students often leave with a feeling of lightness and peace. All levels.
